Overview: It is estimated that almost 1 in 4 teenagers consider suicide. It is extremely important to take all threats of suicide seriously and seek immediate treatment for a child or teenager.

Vulnerable Populations: According to the CDC, in the United States from 2019 to 2021, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, and White female students had an increased prevalence of seriously considered attempting suicide. During that same time frame, female students had an increased prevalence (from 24.1% to 30%) of seriously considered attempting suicide. When examining the difference between grades, The prevalence of female students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade who seriously considered attempting suicide was significantly greater than female students in 12th grade. While the opposite was true among males. Students in 9th and 10th grade were less likely than students in 12th grade to report seriously considered attempting suicide.
